You Can Do It! – Keep Practicing the NVC Model
“No effort on this path is wasted.” – Bhagavad Gita
In a separate video blog post, I discussed 4 steps to better communication, or nonviolent communication. I want to talk a little more about that today. And my goal is to help motivate you not to give up on it.
Like a lot of things, at first this looks so easy – it’s only 4 steps right?!
But as you try it, it gets harder.
So I want you to remember that like with anything you’re learning for the first time, you WILL get it wrong! You’ll make mistakes. You WILL mess this up. And so will your partner.
But, if you’ve ever learned a new sport or musical instrument, you know that getting better takes practice. At first, you look funny and you feel awkward and often you just want to quit. So this is my encouragement to keep at it.
Be proud and impressed with yourself that you even tried it in the first place. Hey – you’re doing something to build better skills in yourself and in your relationship! As the Bhagavad Gita says, “No effort on this path is wasted.” So, keep trying. And give yourself a pat on the back for me!
If you want to learn more about nonviolent communication or try the steps out in my office, please give me a call.
