Being a new therapist is hard! It can also be incredibly rewarding. There are so many questions and curiosities. And so many feelings. I’ve found that as a new therapist, you need a safe space where you can explore all your thoughts and feelings. It also helps to refine your sense of your framework – how you want to practice and the kind of clients you want to help. This kind of work requires vulnerability on both of our parts. Working in this way helps you build muscles around modeling vulnerability and safety for your clients. For me, this is how I put into practice being an anti-racist feminist in my psychoanalytic work. We work together.
I believe strongly that the best therapists are those that work on themselves in their own therapy and training. Getting extra support around case consultation can help build your skills and your sense of confidence in what you’re doing.
If you’re new to the field and want extra support around case consultation, I encourage you to call me.
