I have more than ten years’ experience as a psychotherapist. I see adult individuals and couples and I work with therapists new to the field in case consultation. I also lead groups. My approach is strengths-based, trauma-informed, feminist and anti-racist.
I knew for a long time that I wanted to be a therapist. But before going to graduate school in counseling, I worked as an organizer and advocate for a women’s health non-profit and then managed a yoga studio. My personal belief systems include advocating for queer relationships and women’s empowerment and I include this in the way I work as a therapist. I’ve had lots of jobs and lots of life experience and I hope this helps make me a better therapist.
I am trained in Modern Psychoanalytic and attachment theories and techniques. I take my own personal work seriously and have been in individual, couples, and group therapy with Modern Analytic trained therapists for over 10 years. I engage in regular, advanced training outside of my therapy work and am a student in training at the Center for Group Studies based in New York City. I believe strongly that therapists who work on themselves in their own therapy are better trained and better suited to help clients make progress. This is a core belief of mine and informs how I live my life. Part of working in the Modern Analytic way means helping people build an internal capacity to identify and tolerate feelings without acting them out destructively. And over time learning how to use these feelings productively. It sounds so simple on paper! And most people, including myself, need help with this.
My hope is that working together, we can create a therapeutic environment where you feel understood and supported — and at the same time challenged. This process takes time and, in my experience, can produce lasting, beneficial change.
